For the boys also: Tips to lessen excessive oiliness

Beauty products are no longer a woman's exclusive domain. Nowadays, it's normal to see a guy's kit filled with more than just facial wash and a toothbrush; today's evolved man needs serious skin care, too.

1. Cleansing rules

Cleansing is the first step in helping combat excessive oil production. Lay off cleansing more than twice a day--over-cleansing will strip your face of its natural oils, forcing oil glands to overcompensate by producing even more oil. A deep-penetrating cleanser will help clean pores and reduce oil production and bacteria that could cause breakouts.

2. Exfoliate regularly

Know the benefits of exfoliating skin once a week. Exfoliation helps promote cell turnover and sloughs off dead skin cells, helping clear up pores. Look for a scrub that has oil-controlling properties like Zeroil.

3. Blot away

Let's face it; excessive oiliness will always be our bane, no thanks to the humid climate we are exposed to every day (a perk of having oily skin though is that we won't wrinkle as fast as people with dry skin). Stash a small pack of (powder-free) oil-blotting film in your toiletry kit and blot T-zone regularly to remove excess oil.

Non-surgical Face Treatment; Hydrafacial

It is a revolutionary facial treatment using the latest technology from Korea, consisting of deep cleansing, vacuum and suctioning, mild exfoliation and hydration resulting in moisturized glowing skin. Ideally done every two weeks.

Food that are dangerous to your health!

Nine dangerous food you should never eat — including butter flavored popcorn!

                       Butter flavored popcorn.
There is a chemical in butter flavored microwave popcorn that could put your health in considerable danger. Oh no. Diacetyl, which is present in some butter flavorings, has been so harmful to factory workers, it's even warranted it's own disease classification — "popcorn lung." In short, try just the salted kind.

Canned tomatoes.
There is a type of resin that can be present in tin cans, that contains bisphenol-A / BPA. BPA is a synthetic oestrogen that can cause reproductive problems and heart disease! Put down the tin opener and go pick some fresh ones instead. Or just head to the grocery and get some actual tomatoes with your next shop.

Artificial sweeteners

Rather annoyingly, studies have actually shown that artificial sweeteners can be just as bad for your muffin top as regular refined sugar. Aspartame ca
increase your blood sugar level, leading to overeating. And there have even been rumors that it causes stomach ulcers in high concentrations.

White chocolate.
We all know about dark chocolate right? Full of amazing goodies, like anti-oxidants. Well, don't be fooled into thinking that white chocolate has any of these lovely qualities. It doesn't. It is literally a weird mix of random things that taste sweet.

Pea shoots and sprouts.
Uh oh. These little things look uber healthy, but pea shoots and sprouts have been the source of an incredible number of food recalls because they are really good at carrying food-borne illnesses.

Swordfish.
You're probably not eating an abundance of swordfish as it is, but it is worth knowing that you should definitely avoid it when pregnant. Swordfish is high in heavy metals that can be harmful to children as they develop in the womb.

Food dye.

Food dyes have been linked to cancer in animals, so goodness only knows what they're doing to our insides. The craze for rainbow cakes is more dangerous than we thought!

Ensuring Healthy Eating Even When Eating Out

Planning to have a dinner date outside this weekend with your family or loved ones? Eating out can be fun, but if you’re not careful, restaurants may end up being culinary minefields for unhealthy food choices, especially for you and your kids.

Here are some tips for your consideration:

1) Safety first. Avoid eating in unhygienic places, including street-side kiosks. Food served in trolleys that roam around the city may bring health problems, including diarrhea and hepatitis A.

2) Go for grilled, broiled, or baked food, not fried.

3) Don’t super-size your meals or drinks. Larger servings may be cheaper, but you’ll be consuming more calories than you need, costing you your health in the long run.

4) At the salad bar, skip the bacon bits, croutons, eggs and mayonnaise. Use reduced-fat or fat-free dressing, such as vinaigrette.

5) Choose white meat, such as poultry and fish, instead of beef and pork.

6) Blot the pizza slice or French fries on paper napkins to remove excess oil.

7) Go for thin- rather than thick-crust pizza.

8) Water and unsweetened tea are healthier alternatives to soft drinks.

9) Stay away from eat-all-you-can buffets. Otherwise, take small portions only instead of piling the food on your plate. -By returning to the buffet table more often, you’ll be giving your stomach time to signal your brain when you’re already sated.

10) If the serving is too large for your kids, don’t force them to polish off their plates. Ask the waiter to wrap the leftovers for takeout.

Health News: Botox, may slow tumor growth in stomach cancer?

Botox May Slow Tumor Growth in Stomach Cancer: Study

Botox has frozen the faces of countless Hollywood stars, and international researchers said the toxic injections might also be able to stop cancer in its tracks, at least temporarily.

The findings in the journal Science Translational Medicine are based on studies of mice with stomach cancer.

Researchers found that Botox could block signals from the vagal nerve which extends from the brainstem to the abdomen slowing the growth of tumors as much as surgery would.

“We found that by removing the effect of the nerve, the stem cells in the cancer tumor are suppressed, leading to cancer treatment and prevention,” said co-author Duan Chen, a professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

Botox worked when injected locally to the vagus nerve by blocking the release of a neurotransmitter, acetylcholine, that encouraged the tumor to grow. Other techniques — such as surgically cutting the vagus nerve and giving a blocking drug — also slowed tumor growth.

Blocking acetylcholine through facial injections lessens wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles.

“Scientists have long observed that human and mouse cancers contain a lot of nerves in and around the tumor cells,” said Timothy Wang, professor of medicine at Columbia University’s Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. “We wanted to understand more about the role of nerves in the initiation and growth of cancer, by focusing on stomach cancer.”

A phase II clinical trial of the method in patients with stomach cancer is now taking place in Norway.

Scientists say the technique, while not a cure for cancer, might extend the lives of people with inoperable stomach cancer, or patients who no longer respond to chemotherapy.

“We believe this treatment is a good treatment because it can be used locally and it targets the cancer stem cells,” said Chen.

Further research is needed to determine if the technique might work in other cancers.

Stomach cancer is the fourth most common type of cancer worldwide, and about one quarter of patients survive for more than five years after diagnosis.

Four ways to AVOID STRETCH MARKS

You know what they are—those blasted streaks
of white that make it so inconvenient to wear sleeveless tops or shorts. So instead of picking out a wardrobe that best hides stretch marks, why don’t you just make your skin healthy enough to avoid these cursed things? Here’s what you do.

1. Drink water; all day, every day.

Jackie, 36, gave birth three months ago to a 10-pound baby. And here’s the more amazing part: there isn’t a single stretch mark anywhere on her body. Keep your skin elastic. You can do that by drinking lots of water.

2. Wear the right bra

We now know that stretch marks appear when skin is pulled beyond its elasticity. Unsupported sagging breasts that were heavy in a bra to begin with have a higher risk of developing stretch marks than breasts that are supported by a bra in the right size.

3. Keep a healthy, consistent weight.

No one can discredit the merits of eating healthy. You certainly can’t do much about keeping your tummy small and light during a pregnancy.  But you can control your weight gain in any other occasion by eating the right food in the right amounts.

4. See a pro.

If all else fails, and you sincerely hate stretch marks,

get professional services done.

TRY OUR Fractional CO2 Laser Skin
resurfacing, micro-needling therapy and chemical peels!!!
Though you’ll need to go to several sessions to achieve the effect you want.

Ways To Prevent Excessive Sweating

In a tropical country like the Philippines, sweating is a given. But, that doesn't mean that we should just sit back and allow ourselves to melt in a puddle of sweat every time we leave an air-conditioned room. Here are five things you can do to keep from sweating too much, or to manage your excessive sweating.

1. STAY COOL
Literally. Although that may be difficult to do in a crazy hot country such as the Philippines, there’s one way to remain fresh throughout the day—use an antiperspirant deodorant. How these deodorants work is, they act as a sort of temporary plug on your sweat glands, so that they keep the sweat from being secreted. And remember, you have sweat glands in other parts of your body, not just your armpits.

Deal with this: Take a bath daily. When you use your antiperspirant deodorant, make sure the areas you apply it on are clean.

2. WEAR LIGHT, NATURAL CLOTHING IN LIGHT, COOL COLORS
One of the great things about the Philippines is that people can wear shorts and tank tops all year round if they want to, because sometimes, it’s just too hot to cover up. Just pick an outfit that lets your body breathe. Colors will also make a difference—lighter colors let heat escape while dark colors keep the heat in.

Deal with this: Cotton and wool are natural and will let your body breathe easier.

3. DRINK A LOT OF WATER
Your body sweats when it thinks it needs to keep itself cool. Drinking lots of water throughout the day will keep you cool; then there’s no need for the body to secrete hideous amounts of sweat to cool off.

Deal with this: Always bring a water bottle with you.

4. LAY OFF FATTY, HIGHLY PROCESSED FOOD
When your body needs to process these kinds of food, it needs to put in extra effort because of all the chemicals these contain. And just like how you sweat more when you exert physically, you will also sweat more when your body exerts more breaking down your fast-food feast.

Deal with this: Eat healthier. Put in more grains, fiber, and B vitamins in your diet. You won’t only sweat less, you’ll also feel more energetic.

5. Try our Non-surgical Body Treatment, UNDERARM SWEAT REDUCTION

Deal with this: Using botox, the sweat glands of the axilla are controlled to prevent over secretion of sweat.
