3 Easy Ways to Ward Off Ingrown Hair

Let’s face it – if you are removing hair, whether it is shaving, plucking or waxing, you are likely to experience ingrown hairs. Ingrown hairs are similar to a pimple or a large bump where the hairs have curled around and grown back into your skin instead of rising up from it. This can range from a raised, red bump or sometimes form a painful, boil-like sore.

One reason why you should take care of it immediately? While ingrown hairs are normally not serious or harmful, left alone for too long it can cause an infection. Worst, if you try to remove it the wrong way, you can further aggravate the skin surrounding it.
So to avoid all of the above, it is best you ward off ingrown hairs before it becomes a problem! Not too sure how? Read on to find out.

If you are shaving, make sure you do it with a sharp, single-bladed razor. Wet your skin with warm water before shaving and apply a lubricating gel. When shaving, do it in the same direction your hair is growing. After your shave, apply a cool washcloth to reduce irritation.

The thicker and more “clogged” up your skin is with dead skin cells, the harder it is for a hair to break through the follicles and grow straight. Exfoliating prior to shaving will remove dead skin cells properly so that hairs can grow the way it is supposed to.

And if you pick the ingrown hair, you are making the situation worse! So hands off and seek professional advice instead. Or leave the hair removal to experts who know precisely what to do to prevent ingrown hairs. If hair removal is something you need to do more frequently, then you might want to consider the laser hair removal instead as this permanently destroys the hair follicles, thus preventing future growth of ingrown hairs.
