The Safe And Correct Way To Shave Your Underarms

Worried that your underarm may be covered in bumps and ingrown hair due to your shaving methods? While waxing may be a better alternative to tackle hair underarms, there are moments when we don’t have the time to visit a waxing salon and have to take matters into our own hands. No fret – as long as you do it right, you are far from bumpy skin and closer to smooth silkiness. Just follow these shaving tips for the most effective results.

1. Exfoliate first

Before you even start, always exfoliate the armpit area first. This helps remove any traces of deodorant and dirt, as well as gets rid of dead skin cells so that you can get a closer shave and avoid ingrown hair. Pick a body scrub that is gentle for your skin as the armpit area is highly sensitive. Go for natural grains, like crushed apricot kernels.

2. Shave at night

Why nighttime? This is because shaving can leave your skin very sensitive. Shaving first thing in the morning means that you are exposing the “raw” area to environmental aggressors that you come into contact with during the day – like humidity and hot weather that can cause you to sweat, resulting in rashes on your underarms. But if you shave at night, you can apply a moisturizing lotion straight after and use the rest of the night to let your skin recover.

3. Use shaving cream
Take it from the guys and apply some shaving cream or gel when you are shaving next. This is especially useful when attempting to shave hard-to-reach areas where you tend to run your blade over the skin too much which can cause razor burn. To avoid this, apply a rich shaving gel all over your underarm. This allows you to track easily the areas that have been shaved so that you don’t run the risk of skin irritation. If you can, use a razor with a pivoting head and multiple blades to give you a smoother and closer shave. Pick one with a rubber handle as well for a better grip.

4. Don’t keep your shaving blades for too long
Imagine running a blunt blade on your underarm. Not only will this not give you the desired smooth result, you are indirectly harming the gentle skin around that area! Using blunt blades can also cause the improper removal of hair around that area, which then results in ingrown hair. So don’t be thrifty! Discard your shaving blade after four or five uses.
